I tried this place because it's the cheapest smog check I could find in the Berkeley area. I booked an appointment online the night before, arrived 10 minutes early and was out within 20 minutes!

as much as i hate paying someone $40 to do a smog check on a diesel (it's a visual inspection only), I hate giving someone MORE money to do the same thing.

I was in and out in about 25 minutes (3 cars ahead of me), and paid the lowest amount in the east bay. no complaints here.

I needed to find a Star smog center and stumbled about Berkeley Smog Test Only Center on Yelp.  It looked cheap, close to work, and had online appointments.  I made a same day appointment, and ended up being in and out in probably 10 minutes.  The guy was super quick, friendly, and left chocolate in my car.  I paid $58 overall.

If I could give you 10Stars I would. This place is Awesome. I made an appointment online which was super easy.  I made it early expecting to be there for 30mins like the last smog testing center I went to.... NO this was 10min max. I don't remember my smog testers name but he was awesome! Really nice and welcoming I left satisfied without even knowing he left candy in the car. Bonus... how does that not make your day better??

I went to Berkeley Smog Test Only on February 26th without an appointment and Jessie was able to fit me in no problem.  He was very nice and he got me in and out quickly even though there were six cars in front of me.  He was so nice and happy he was literally whistling while he worked.  When he was finished with my car, which passed (phew) he left a chocolate on a napkin in my car.  I have never had a better customer service experience in my life.

Fast, friendly, cheap, and easy. What else could I ask for?

Dropping off takes a couple minutes to fill out paperwork.

The test itself takes about 15 minutes once they get your car on the rollers.

You can visit the Berkeley East Bay Humane Society (across the street) for some puppy love while you wait , or you can get old-school Mexican at Juans (across the street), or a mighty decent sandwich, coffee, and a pastry at Westside Bakery Cafe (1 block north).

Check-in with the Yelp app for a $40 smog test (plus 8.25 for the certificate).

Get a free re-test within 30 days if you don't pass. (but don't worry, I'm sure you'll pass).

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!  New to California and the Berkeley area, so had to get the smog test to register my Vette today (which i'm very protective of btw), . Hard to find a good, honest tech, especially when you don't know the area. Found it here! Great service and Price. Nice work!

I LOVE this place.  I loved my old place too, but they didn't have the new STAR certification that came into effect with the new laws on Jan 1.  So I found my way here.

Jesse really, really is the nicest, friendliest, fastest, most accommodating, greatest person in the world.   I brought my '93 Volvo 240 in last Friday, and.... it failed the emissions test.  

This of course is not good news to hear, but Jesse delivered it in the nicest, best way possible.  Really, not very many people can do that.  He explained that I could come back for a free re-test within 30 days.  I still got the Ghirardelli chocolate and the cute napkin on my dash anyway, which I had been looking forward to.  Such a nice touch!

I had the re-test today; once again, service was super-fast and super-friendly.  And when my Volvo passed this time, Jesse was as happy as I was.  I even got another chocolate.

I also appreciate the way he's arranged both an  indoor and outdoor waiting area and stacks of good magazines, though you hardly need them, you are in and out so fast.  Extremely pleasant and comfortable.  Good bathrooms round the corner too.

When I visited on a Saturday there was no wait. A quick form to fill out and straight into the test.  Jessie tested my car and he was very nice and attentive even though he was testing another car at the same time.  Test was very quick and I even got a chocolate after the test was over.  

Will definitely be using this testing center again. They are a STAR center if you need that for you older car.  We also have used this center for our larger Chevy flat bed truck will equally great service.

It's been over five years since my last smog check. After looking on yelp, I decided to try this place out. After a quick call, I made an online reservation. I got there and the person ahead of me was just finishing their test. Sam, the technician, greeted me and told me it would just be a few minutes. The whole process only took around 25 minutes and Sam had my results over to the DMV before I paid. The entire process was fast and painless. I definitely recommend this place to anyone that needs to get their car tested and doesn't want to wait a long time.

Really friendly/fast service for a reasonable price. I went on a weekend (which I assume is busier than weekdays) and it only took 30 mins total to get my test done. There were a couple of people in front of me and if I were to go again, I'd probably use the online schedule in order to make an appointment. The dude was really nice and helped manage expectations about wait time. All in all, I would come back and recommend to all.

Easy 5-star rating based purely on how simple it was and the fact that I passed. Can't compare to others since I didn't look anywhere else. Berkeley Smog is right around the corner from my mechanic (Oceanworks) and they referred me 2 years ago, so I came back this year, when I had to go to a STAR certified facility. Process was totally easy: made an appointment online, showed up, caught some winter sun in the parking lot while reading a book, paid and left.

Excellent! Friendly, fast, with no hidden fees. I'd taken my car to a test/repair station before coming to Berkeley Smog, and the test/repair station told me that my car had failed because the timing was off. They offered to fix it for $200. The folks at Berkeley Smog told me that the timing on my car isn't even adjustable, and my car passed their test in flying colors. Moral: avoid test/repair stations.

Great Service I went to Berkeley Smog Test two years ago and again this year. My mechanic for the past 25 years recommended them and I really trust him. Fantastic Experience! I purchased a Groupon and went to see Berkeley Smog without knowing what to expect. What a great experience! I made an appointment online - super easy. The day I arrived, there was one car finishing up and then I got right in on time. The technician was very friendly and upbeat and finished quickly and efficiently. Excellent I've been coming here for several years because they know what they're doing AND they're friendly. I booked online because you get a $10 discount. On the day of my appointment, there was one car getting smogged with another waiting. When he saw me, the attendant asked if I had an appointment and I said yes. Smog Test Day I've been going since 2005. I find the service excellent and pleasant. This year the technician even took the time to help a customer who had accidentally dropped her key into the gutter! They successfully retrieved it. If you book online, there is a discount which was a considerable savings. I was relieved to pass the test one more year with my aging but trusty car.

Great Timely Service I scheduled an appointment for 9am. I showed up at 9am and he started on my car right away. The smog check was done in 15 minutes. They were friendly, timely and a fair price. I couldn't ask for anything more.

Very Satisfied with the Service I made an appointment using the Internet for the smog check. I took advantage of the Saturday Special $45.00 price. The store has a clean and tidy waiting room with various magazines available as well as Internet access. The technician, Daniel Hord, was very courteous and efficient. The smog check was completed within 20 minutes of my arrival. I highly recommend this shop if you need to have a smog check.

Great Service Easy to book online. They were ready for me as I pulled in. Took about 10 minutes total. Electronically sent the results to the DMV. $55 online booking price. Very professional and friendly.

A solid five stars. Booked online, at the advertised price of $55, in about 5 seconds. When I pulled up, someone was already walking toward me. The whole experience was very professional, very friendly. I flipped through one magazine in the waiting area, then my car was ready and the results were already at the DMV. Next time, I'll head straight here, no more looking around. Couldn't get any better.

All steps were great I was referred to the Berk Smog TOCI about 8 years ago when my full service auto shop stopped providing smog checks. I have always been fully satisfied. By scheduling on the internet I saved @ $20. I gave the tester a small tip.

Totally painless smog experience. Jesse was the tech on duty and he did a great job quickly testing my vehicle and getting me back on the road. He left a little Ghirardelli chocolate on the dash to boot! Price was very reasonable compared with alternatives, I was able to book online the night before (all booking online means is that when you show up, if there's a line you're put at the front of it but still not bad).

The government is all up in my tailpipe where it doesn't belong--it was time for a smog test, which I hate. It's expensive, you wait around for no reason, the guy's a jerk, you fry outside in the sun, and you leave hungry. If only there was a smog test center that solved all those problems...

Boom! Berkeley Smog:
1) Discount online for booking an appointment. Cheapest in the entire area (compared to the two other places I called).
2) Book an appointment time online. No wait.
3) Friendly dude
4) Wait in a seating area in the shade
5) Caramel Ghiradelli chocolate square attacks your hunger.

If there's a better way to get the government out of your tailpipe, I don't know it.

Now that's what I call "Value Added."  I almost hate to review them so well, knowing it will be slammed in no time.

Just went there to get my 2001 Nissan Frontier smogged. Made an appointment the day before using their on-line appointment calendar which was really easy. The guy took my trruck right away and 20 minutes later, I was driving away with a piece of  Ghiradelli caramel chocolate left on my seat. It just could not get any easier -- try them!

You get like $20 off for checking-in on Yelp or you can find a coupon online. They're friendly and fast. I've never had to wait and they have enough space to test 2 cars at once.

They also leave you a chocolate on the console. yay. ^_^

This place is absolutely awesome!

Just went back here again with my second vehicle, and I can't say enough good things about the staff. I called up to see if they could take my vehicle (it's an '84 VW Vanogan), and they said it would be no problem. I was nervous about it passing due to it being an older vehicle, so the guy recommended I drive it around for 20 minutes before bringing it in. I scheduled an appointment (they have this awesome online scheduling system now) so I would not have to wait upon arrival and let the engine cool too much.

When I got there, nothing but friendly service. The technician got to my van right away, and I was out of there in 15 minutes. And it passed!  *happy dance*

I thought this place was good the last time I went there, but now they're even better with their online scheduling service. And they are a Test-Only station, so anyone can go there. I don't know why anyone would bother going elsewhere...seriously!

So easy!  Made an appointment online, showed up a few minutes early, filled out paperwork and dropped off keys, went across the street at Juan's Place for lunch (with a coupon I got in the email confirmation) and came back all done. 20 minutes, tops.

Really friendly service! I didn't get the usual l'm-getting-ripped-off-at-a-car-shop-because-I'm-­a-girl feeling.

Quick, friendly, and even came with a Ghirardelli chocolate square, which just happened to be my favorite kind (caramel filling).

5+++ stars!  Well-deserved.  I've found my go-to smog check place for all my cars in the future.
